Ties that Bind
- By Wendy Raimi

After a while of staying at Xena's village we walked on. On our way we met Hercules and Iolaus. Then Iris, messenger for the gods, came down and gave us a beautiful scroll and flew off. Xena un-wrapped the scroll while we all waited to hear what it said.

"Khlara needs our help. She says she's fighting off a spell Aries put on her and if we don't come she will die." said Xena summing up the scroll worriedly. We started to run and half way to Athens we bumped into Autolycus, King of Thieves.

"What's your hurry?" asked Autolycus.

"Khlara's going to die if we don't get to her." I answered.

"Well what are we waiting for? Let's go!" said Autolycus.

"Why are you helping?" asked Iolaus.

"She kinda helped me what time when I was stuck with something." No one asked what it was but just kept running. When we got to her house outside of Athens I was amazed. It was in a huge tree! Xena started going up the stairs and everyone followed. When we got there Athena was sitting on the bed next to her.

"What kinda spell did Aries put on her?" I asked.

"He was feeling mean so he had Hera put a separation spell on her." answered Athena.

"Hera. I knew it couldn't be Aries." said Hercules.

"Who is she separated from?" asked Xena worriedly.

"Joxer." said Athena like she couldn't believe it. I couldn't either and neither could Xena.

"Joxer?" asked Autolycus.

"Some kind of pet?"

"No. A friend of ours." said Xena frowning.

"Now can you see why I never wanted a sidekick." whispered Khlara horribly.

"You rest." said Xena sitting next to Khlara. Athena was already standing up.

"Why don't you just send Iris to give him a message? Isn't he dying to?" I asked.

"The separation spell was put on Khlara not Joxer. Joxer probably has no idea of the spell." answered Athena. "He's been gone for 2 days. Today is the 3rd. I die at dusk if he is not here." said Khlara still whispering.

"What can we do to help?" asked Autolycus.

"The only cure for the spell is a golden apple. Unfortunately Hera has taken the tree from all immortals. It is up to you to get the apple. Once we have the apple we need Joxer." explained Athena.

"How about we split up?" started Hercules.

"Iolaus and I will go with Autolycus and get the apple and Xena and Gabrielle can go find Joxer." he finished. "Gabrielle should stay with Khlara. I'm wanted back on Olympus." said Athena. I gladly said yes to staying with Khlara. I didn't want to find Joxer. Later I was told how the search went.

Why no one could find Joxer was because he had gotten himself trapped with those still loyal to Callisto. They were finding out ways to torture him. Xena had to slowly move her way in so Joxer wouldn't blow her cover. she did little tricks to confuse most of them. She knocked out six of the men and pressure pointed one. There were three others left. Two ran away from fright and Xena fought the last one. He was injured enough where he would leave Xena alone for a couple days. Joxer then said,

"You didn't have to come rescue me. I would've saved my self in a couple more minutes." Joxer was going to say more but Xena stopped him by saying

"Save your breath." While Xena explained why she saved him, Autolycus, Iolaus, and Hercules tried to get the apple from way a top a mountain. They had to battle monsters and other horrible creatures. Then Autolycus used his "talents" to take the apple from a sleeping Hera.

Xena was the first to get back. It was too late. When Xena came in she found me sitting on the bed with my hands covering my face, crying.

"What happened?" Iolaus asked. The others finally came back.

"She died while I was getting her water from the bucket." I answered sobbing in between.

"She's suppose to be immortal though. She can't die." said Joxer. He sounded angry.

"Hera put a spell on her. If she was separated from you for three days she would die on the 3rd day at dusk." explained Hercules to Joxer. Joxer went over to Khlara. Tears started falling off his face. I was amazed. Did Joxer care that much for Khlara? We all watched in silence. Did Khlara really die? Joxer picked up his lyre and started singing a pretty nice song.

"Sweet and simple all shall be from when we perish from this earth. Simple beauty she shall have when all has come to end." Joxer kept singing parts of the song.

"The apple" I thought . Wasn't the apple suppose to help? I gave Joxer the apple and told him to open Khlara's hand and give it to her. With in minutes Khlara opened her eyes. Khlara was alive! Athena came down and hugged Khlara. Autolycus had left when Khlara opened her eyes and Hercules and Iolaus were all ready going. Athena came over to thank us. When she was shaking hands with Xena I saw a sight I thought I'd never see. I told Xena and Athena to look. Khlara was standing up with the help of Joxer and the two had their arms around each other, kissing.
