The Death

"Xena, do you regret saving Callisto?" asked Gabrielle. It had been three days since Xena had saved Callisto and now they were tracking down her army.

"I don't know."

"What do you think will happen if we do catch her?"

"I don't know."

"Xena? Are you all right? You seem like you let Callisto die."

"Gabrielle, I do feel as if I did let Callisto die. I killed her. I killed her soul and there's nothing I can do about it." Gabrielle placed her hand on Xena's shoulder.

"It's all right." They kept walking.

Xena was so stupid! She saved Callisto! She should've let her sink. Oh well. Joxer thought as he sat at a tavern table sipping at some sour wine. Word had spread that Callisto would come soon. Her or Xena. No one could tell for sure.

It would be both. Where Callisto goes Xena follows. The door opened and Xena stepped in. She walked over to the bar and spoke something then looked for a table. Everything was filled except...except Joxer's table. The only table left. Xena made her way to the table with Gabrielle.

"Hi Xena!" said Joxer cheerfully. Xena threw her pack onto the table and started to go through it.

"She doesn't feel like talking." said Gabrielle the publicist.

"Oh. Find out the next village Callisto's going to attack?"

"No. We haven't even found her yet." said Xena a little agitated. All she wanted was to be left alone right now. Joxer was not helping. She needed silence. Xena stood up and left the tavern. Gabrielle stood to follow but Joxer grabbed her arm.

"She needs silence Gabby. All warriors do when they're unhappy." Gabrielle thought this over for a moment and sat back down.

Xena brushed Argo's back. Why couldn't she find Callisto? Where was Callisto going? Was she going to Delphi to kill the Oracle? No she didn't have Xena's chackram. Why was this bugging her. She shouldn't worry too much about Callisto. Everything would be fine in the morning.

"Xena! Help!" cried a villager from outside. Xena woke with a start and looked out the window. Buildings were on fire and men in black leather were running around terrorizing the people. Xena woke Gabrielle and the two went outside to come face to face with Callisto.

"Hello Xena? Miss me?" she asked.

"No." said Xena with a wry smile. Callisto screamed and was about to hit Xena when Xena's sword countered it. The two women fought as Joxer came out. All his armour was on and his sword was out. He watched, standing next to Gabrielle, as the two women fought. Callisto got in a lucky shot though and Xena's sword went flying into a nearby tree. Xena looked and whipped out her chackram only to have that be taken away by Callisto's sword as well. Xena got ready to fight Callisto with her bare hands as Joxer came running and hit Callisto's sword.

Joxer?! thought Xena and Gabrielle. Callisto's mouth went open in surprise. "What's the matter Callisto? Scared to fight me?" Joxer challenged.

"No." said Callisto as her sword hit his with force. He hit hers back with equal force and tried to hit her head. Callisto ducked and aimed for Joxer's legs. He jumped and tried to hit her shoulder only for her to block it with her sword. The two swords went to the side and Callisto's let go. His stomach was open and she shot her sword into it as Joxer's went through her stomach. Just below her heart. The two looked down in amazement and fell to the ground. Xena and Gabrielle didn't know what to do. Go to Joxer or go to Callisto? Gabrielle ran to Callisto as Xena went to Joxer. By the time Gabrielle got to Callisto though her eyelids were lowering and she was dead. Gabrielle walked over to Joxer. There he lay with Callisto's sword in his stomach. Xena pulled it out and opened up his shirt to see if he could be saved. Xena and Gabrielle were amazed at what they saw. A red and white scar going from side to side and a hole right above it.

"Joxer, how did you get this scar?" asked Xena.

"My_father." Answered Joxer in short gasps. "I'm going to die aren't I." He asked quickly. Xena didn't want to admit it but she nodded yes. He couldn't be saved. The sword had gone right through him. It was only a matter of moments until he would die.

"Do you have any other scars?" asked Gabrielle.

"On my back_there are sixty-three whip lashes." Said Joxer. Tears came down his cheek. "I don't want to die Xena." Xena brushed some hair from his forehead. Tears came down both the girls' cheeks.

"Xena_sing for me_the song you sang for Perdicus." Asked Joxer. He took a large gasp. Xena started to sing. Joxer closed his eyes and breathed deep. When the song was over he opened his eyes and looked at Xena. "Thank you." His eyes closed once more. For eternity.
