One Night

Wendy Raimi

I can feel the rain start to fall
It stains my cheeks
makes my nose run
And there you are.
Deep dark brown koans stare at me
telling me I am the world
making me understand
the underside of the moon.
And I tell you it will be all right.
Quick and painless and nothing else.
And yet, neither of us move.
And the rain starts to slow.
It no longer falls, although my eyes are now red.
My nose still runs.
But the rain does not fall.
And deep dark brown koans
still stare up at me.
I feel the sun peak from behind a cloud
I beg for it to shine on your face
and a brief glimpse of heaven shows itself unto me.

"Can I get you anything?"
and how does one respond?
With ponies and monies and a bed of roses.
But I could care less for these.
I want your lips, your kisses, your love.
It's all I need, no more, no less.
I can feel you everywhere, and suddenly not at all.
I can hear you, smell you, and suddenly not at all.
I am one with you, and twice without you.
Several in and among during a week.
A weekend and I am me.
A saviour among men, no one can compare.
If there are no others, than let you be mine.
Because I know you are.
